After this long pause I thought you might enjoy a list of favorite books by Joan Didion. I saw it in an article by  on Brain Pickings. I’ll let you read the list yourself in Popova’s interesting article, but Didion starts with Farewell to Arms. I love reading lists of favorites by authors and designers and other artists. Didion’s list includes a book I haven’t even heard of but is now on my own list of books to read: Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell.

This summer I’ve been researching, reading, traveling (France, Ontario and Virginia) and reconceptionalizing my own Great Lakes book. Hard to let go of a decade-old structure, but seems to have a mind and life of its own that I must trust.

I start teaching in a few weeks (see list on right). This includes Understanding the Great Lakes that for the first time I’m teaching in Chelsea at a senior center. I was delighted to find out yesterday that 24 already have enrolled. Should be a good semester although with Ann Arbor’s near perfect weather these past two weeks I’d love time to slow way way down until then :)

Hope to see some of you in one of my classes this Fall! This link gets you to the noncredit community enrichment classes. Writing About Nature is under Creative Arts/Creative Writing and my Great Lakes classes are under General Interest/History & Culture.
